The United Nations says the world must close an annual financing gap of approximately $4 trillion to meet its Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. Although billions of people have gained better access to electricity, healthcare and clean water, progress remains too slow in areas including poverty reduction, education, climate resilience and gender equality. The UN says developing countries are struggling with rising debt, reduced international assistance and higher borrowing costs. Without greater investment and reforms to the global financial system, many of the development targets agreed by world leaders could remain out of reach.
