Fiji and Australia have signed the Ocean of Peace Alliance, requiring both countries to assist each other if either is attacked. Fiji will also receive approximately A$1 billion in Australian investment over ten years. Supporters call the agreement an important security guarantee, while critics question whether Fiji is becoming too closely aligned with Australia against China.
